From backpacks to keys and e-cigs, Londoners are regularly forgetting personal items in Ubers.
It happens with such frequency, the Forest City has rounded out the ride-sharing company’s seventh annual Lost and Found Index – a list of the top ten Canadian cities where fares leave items behind.
Montreal Uber riders were dubbed the most forgetful, taking the number one spot on the index. They were followed by those in Hamilton, Vancouver, Edmonton, and Kitchener-Waterloo.
After not appearing on the list at all in 2022, London ranked 10th this year.
The most commonly forgotten items include clothing, backpacks, phones, jewellery, and wallets. The weirdest items riders accidentally left with their drivers were a mattress cover in Saskatoon, a purple sparkly leopard print high heel in Kitchener-Waterloo, a photo of 2Pac in Montreal, and a ping pong table in Toronto.
Sundays at 6 p.m. proved to be the most common time for riders to leave something behind. The most forgetful day in Canada over the past 12 months was January 1, according to Uber officials.
Fares who have forgotten an item in an Uber can retrieve it through the app by taping “your trips” then scrolling to “find lost item”, and then hitting the “contact driver about a lost item” option. Getting the lost item back does come with a $20 fee. The Uber driver gets the cash because of the inconvenience of returning the item, Uber said.
