ABCA urges residents to be aware of hunting and other seasonal activities

The Stewardship and Lands Manager with the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority says there’s a lot of activity on Conservation Authority properties this time of year and  that’s only going to increase with the fall hunting season.

Nathan Schoelier says they’re happy to see people enjoying the properties but it is important for everyone to know what activities are permitted where.

“There is hunting permitted across the Ausable Bayfield watershed on land owned and managed by the Conservation Authority. There is also lands that we do not permit hunting and there’s the opportunity for people to visit those properties as well as any of the other properties, taking safety precautions into consideration,” Schoelier said.

Schoelier points out the Conservation Authority is the largest single owner of forest in the watershed.

“The Conservation Authority is the largest single owner of forest in the watershed. The forests have been acquired over the past sixty years for protection of water, soil and habitat. But, as an added benefit, they do provide some recreational opportunities for people as well,” added Schoelier.

Off-road vehicles such as all-terrain vehicles, side-by-sides and dirt bikes are strictly prohibited on all ABCA properties, and all properties managed by ABCA. Schoelier adds there’s more information about the permitted activities on ABCA properties on their web site, under parks and recreation.
