Severe thunderstorms possible Wednesday

Parts of southwestern Ontario may be in for some wild weather throughout the day Wednesday.

Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Sarnia-Lambton, Windsor-Essex, Chatham-Kent, London-Middlesex, Huron-Perth, and Southern Bruce County.

Thunderstorms are making their way into the region from Lower Michigan, with conditions favourable for them to become severe as the day goes on, the national weather agency said.

The storms have the potential to pack ping-pong ball sized hail and wind gusts between 90 to 100 km/h.

“Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees, and overturn large vehicles,” Environment Canada said in a statement.

The stormy conditions should tapper off by Wednesday evening.

The severe weather comes ahead of a cold front that will see temperatures drop below seasonal Thursday and Friday.
