Royal family members had gathered at her side on Thursday after doctors at Balmoral Castle became concerned for her health.
Buckingham Palace released a statement Thursday morning saying, “The Queen’s doctors are concerned for Her Majesty’s health and have recommended she remain under medical supervision.” It added she was resting comfortably.
Hours later, the announcement of her passing was made.
The BBC reported the Queen had excused herself from a virtual meeting with the Privy Council on Wednesday after doctors advised her to rest.
On Tuesday, she was photographed with the new British Prime Minister, Liz Truss, at Balmoral.
