ETFO endorses local New Democrats

The union that represents elementary teachers in the Thames Valley District School Board is throwing its support behind NDP candidates in the Ontario election.

The Thames Valley local of the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario has endorsed six candidates, all of them running for the Ontario New Democratic Party.

“Ontario’s world-class system of public education was weakened by 15 years of Liberal government, and is being actively dismantled by the current Conservative one” said Local President Craig Smith. “Ontario needs a government that puts people first, and that will fight to expand public education, health care, and social services for all. The NDP candidates in this region will help make that goal a reality.”

ETFO Thames Valley is endorsing Terence Kernaghan in London North Centre, Peggy Sattler in London West, Teresa Armstrong in London Fanshawe, Vanessa Benoit in Lambton Kent Middlesex, Andy Kroeker in Elgin Middlesex London, and Lindsay Wilson in Oxford.

The federation is also urging its members to consider each party’s education platform when they vote.

Late last month, the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation also endorsed Kernaghan, Sattler, Armstrong, and Wilson. The union gave its endorsement in Elgin Middlesex London to Liberal candidate Heather Jackson.

Ontarians go to the polls on June 2.
