Bluewater starting comprehensive recreation plan

Staff at the Municipality of Bluewater and their consultant have started work on a comprehensive recreation plan.

Facilities Manager Maggie Off says the plan is a series of recommendations that will help guide council and staff in the provision of recreation over the next 15 years.

So that might include recommendations related to parks, trails, waterfront, programs, culture and service delivery.

Off says the consultants working with them have already done similar plans for other municipalities and they will be able to take advantage of the things that have worked in those situations.

“They’ve also launched the Community Hub page. So people can go on and there’s an Idea Board, so you can already start adding some of your ideas to the board and you can like other people’s ideas, or comment on their ideas,” said Off.

She says community engagement is going to be a critical part of the process to make sure that they ultimately provide what the community wants.

Phase two of the process will involve community consultation and that will start in April and continue until August. It will include a household survey that will go out to everyone in the community.

Phase three will involve analyzing and identifying the needs of the community.

And the fourth phase will be to put together a draft of the master plan and an implementation strategy. The goal will be to have that done by September.

More information about the recreation plan and reports on its program will be available at the Municipality of Bluewater’s Recreation Master Plan Community Consultation Hub.
