Provincial police call it “very fortunate” that a 19-year-old pilot was able to walk away with minor injuries after a plane crash in Norfolk County Sunday night.
Emergency crews were called to the single-engine plane crash in a farmer’s field on Windham Road 13 near Simcoe around 5:30 p.m.
“It was determined the pilot was making their way back to the Nixon Airport when they ran into some type of engine trouble. As a result, the pilot landed the plane in a farmer’s field resulting in the plane rolling over,” said Acting OPP Sergeant Ed Sanchuk.
The 19-year-old pilot suffered only minor injuries in the crash.
“I’m just very thankful, and it’s very fortunate that this pilot is walking away with minor injuries and going home to their family,” added Sanchuk. “People can’t be replaced, planes can.”
Transport Canada has been notified and the investigation is ongoing.
