Ten London-area public schools report new COVID-19 cases

The number of new COVID-19 cases reported in Thames Valley schools jumped up significantly on Thursday.

In a release issued by the Thames Valley District School Board late Thursday evening, a total of 10 schools in the London-area reported one or more new cases of COVID-19, and one school declared an outbreak.

The new cases were reported at:

• Byron Southwood Public School in London

• Clara Brenton Public School in London

• Eastdale Public School in Woodstock, where an outbreak was declared with two active cases.

• John P Robarts Public School in London

• John Wise Public School in St. Thomas

• Kensal Park French Immersion Public School in London

• Lester B. Pearson School in London

• Mountsfield Public School in London

• Rick Hansen Public School in London reported two cases however, no outbreak has been declared.

• Springbank Public School in Woodstock.

“Thames Valley wishes to assure the community that all staff, parents and guardians of the school communities were immediately notified,” a statement from the school board read.

Additionally, the TVDSB said letters will be sent out to families identified as close contacts of the affected individuals by either the Middlesex London Health Unit or Southwestern Public Health.

“Thames Valley is following all health and safety protocols recommended by both the local public health unit and the Ministry of Education, and schools remain safe places to attend,” the board added.

There are now 36 active COVID-19 cases within 28 Thames Valley schools.

All confirmed active cases are tracked on the school board’s website.
