Sisters take home $100K for playing Encore

An extra looney has resulted in a big payday for two Southwestern Ontario sisters.

Mary Ann Sherman of Leamington, and Donna Urbantke of London, went in on the Ontario 49 draw on September 25 and put down an extra dollar to activate the Encore feature. The sisters’ ticket matched the last six of the seven Encore numbers drawn for a $100,000 prize.

Sherman checked the ticket online and at first thought it was only a free-ticket winner, then she thought the prize was just $10. She continued to match numbers and realized a few more zeros were to be added to the haul.

“I called Donna right away to tell her! I was happy, happy, happy,” said Sherman.

The winner was purchased at the Real Canadian Superstore on Talbot Street in Leamington. The sisters picked up their cheque this week at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto.

Sherman will use her share of the winnings to buy a new set of golf clubs, then save the rest. Urbantke will invest her share of the money and have her house repainted.

“I also want to plan a trip to the Cayman Islands and Antigua when it’s safe,” said Urbantke.

When the Encore feature is activated on select OLG games, players can win $2 to $1-million through 22 prize combinations.
