Woman involved in grain truck crash passes away

A St. Thomas woman who was critically injured in a collision involving an SUV and a grain truck has died.

According to a friend who organized a GoFundMe campaign to help the family after the collision, Jess Reimer died in hospital Wednesday night.

“It is with profound sadness that we announce that Jess has succumbed to her injuries and passed on her 28th birthday, October 6, 2021,” Katie Barber said in the comment section of the GoFundMe page. “Jess was surrounded by the love of her family since the accident on Thursday, September 30th up until her passing.”

Reimer and her infant daughter Aria were rushed to Victoria Hospital with life-threatening injuries after the collision on Lyons Line on September 30. Her daughter suffered critical injuries, but has since been released from hospital and is recovering at home.

“To know her was to love her, and she will be greatly missed by her husband Josh, her three girls Emma, Olivia, and Aria, her parents Paul and Vicki, her brother Darren, her best friend Katie, and all the people whose lives she touched,” Barber said.

According to the GoFundMe page, Reimer’s husband was forced to take time off work since the crash to be at his wife’s side and to care for Aria and their two other young daughters. As of Thursday morning the campaign has raised just under $9,000 of a $20,000 goal.

Elgin County provincial police continue to investigate the crash.
