A toddler who died after falling from a balcony at a highrise near Old East Village is being remembered as “an angel.”
The young girl has been identified through a GoFundMe campaign as 22-month-old Inayah. The online fundraiser was created on Monday to help support the parents financially as they cope with the sudden loss of their only child.
The youngster fell from the balcony at 400 Lyle Street, south of Dundas Street around 12:30 p.m. Saturday. She suffered life-threatening injuries and was rushed to hospital where she later died.
“She was an angel and was loved by everyone,” Husain Netarwala, the organizer of the GoFundMe, wrote. “Her family is going through a lot and have burdens that we can’t express.”
The toddler’s parents are described as being “low on income.” The money collected would be used to cover funeral, re-accommodation , and travel costs.
“[The parents] can only get through this with the help of kind hearted people in our community. A little help and generosity from you can repair our broken world,” Netarwala adds.
As of Tuesday morning, the online fundraiser, which includes multiple photos of the young girl, has raised more than $15,000.
A memorial outside of the apartment complex on Lyle Street also continues to grow. Flowers, stuffed animals, toys, and notes have been laid on the spot where the girl fell.
London police and the Office of the Chief Coroner continue to investigate the incident. They have not confirmed the identity of the child.
