Two new water and sediment control basins also know as “berms” were built to control runoff on 80 acres of farmland in Huron Kinloss. Our contractor D&I Wattam Inc and landowner installed the berms this spring. The “berms” structure reduces water and sediment run-off into local watercourses and reduces erosion. The berm will allow any sediment to settle out, allow for infiltration through the soils and filtration once the seed and plants are established. These berms were made possible by COA funding, a grant from Environment Canada.

Landowners allow us to help them manage in ground projects by working with us to secure funding and co-ordinate contractors to create berms and livestock crossings on their property. It is a great opportunity!

In the spring of 2019, we planted over 3,000 cedars and spruce seedlings to reforest a 2.5 acre of retired farm land during our annual 4-H Volunteer Tree Planting Day.

Our 2019 Potted Tree Ash Replacement Program offered shoreline residents 27 potted trees.  
 
 
 
 
 

PRWIN 2020 4-H TREE PLANTING DAY AND SPRING SEEDLING PROGRAM POSTPONED

Due to the current COVID 19 circumstances, PRWIN decided to make the difficult decision to cancel our 4-H Tree Planting Day and all personal seedling orders with our 2020 Seedling Program. We want to do our part to continue with social and physical distancing and refrain from social gatherings and contact in our community.

In these uncertain times, it is best to postpone our program until 2021. We will keep all 2020 personal orders on file and will contact you later in the year to confirm that you would like to participate in our program for 2021. We are hoping to move forward with our own machine planting projects this year to plant over 6,000 seedlings.

We will keep you updated with the progress of our current machine planting projects in 2020.

PRWIN 2020 PTARP SUPPORTED BY COMMUNITY WELL BEING PROGRAM

Our 2020 Potted Tree Ash Replacement Program, will be supported by the Community Well Being Program. This program is provided by The Township of Huron Kinloss and NWMO.

Our Potted Tree Ash Replacement Program aims to reforest our local coastline from the damage that the Emerald Ash Borer has caused to ash trees. If you live along the Huron Kinloss shoreline, you may be eligible for a FREE native potted tree, if you have lost or are losing an ash tree due to the emerald ash borer. One potted native tree is offered per property. We will offer the program in the Fall of 2020.
